Check out this cool Steve Irwin tribute photo slideshow!
This from the Widgets Lab: Create Your Own
I will have to see if I can't create some of my own over the upcoming weekend. I have my doubts as my list of 'now I will have time to do this' items is rapidly growing past what the physical constraints of 24 hour days will allow. I suspect as I reprioritize this idea will get left in the unfinished pile. Nice thought though.
I have some mixed feelings on Steve Irwin's passing. I am deeply saddened to have lost him so early in his life. I feel terrible for his wife and kids left behind. I am thoroughly impressed with how they have handled themselves, especially his oldest daughter. I think she will go onto do great things in the future. I think his death was tragic and completely ironic in terms of the way it happened. It's also interesting how often we realize what a person meant to us after they are gone in a much clearer way. Not that I knew the man personally, but I think he really was a great man and did what he did very well. I can appreciate and respect what he has done for public awareness of a wide variety of animals most are not normally exposed to. He seemed very intent on educating everyone he could. Admirable to say the least. We will miss you Steve Irwin.
On a related note, there has been a somewhat sudden rise in similar deaths. I guess I can't really call it a significant rise (I only know of two examples so far), but since I hadn't heard of it happening before and now having at least two in a relatively short span of time, it seems a little odd. Check out the other story here if you haven't already seen it. Any thoughts?
