The number 6174

Yutaka Nishiyama has written this fascinating study on the mysteries of this number and why it is so special. This is the first I had heard of Kaprekar's operation, but apparently he created it in 1949. For those interested in numbers at all, this presents an interesting case study. I do believe this is one of those incidental patterns in numbers that are seen throughout mathematics. Obviously I believe a higher power had his hand in this, but that's not important here. I think it is enough to enjoy the beauty of the thing.
